I’m no engineer, or an expert on generators or power grids, but it seems to me that with all of the health and fitness clubs in the United States – and with all of the users of cardio equipment, sweating and panting for 30 or more minutes at a time – that we are ignoring a vast resource of wasted energy. Power the gym itself, or sell the energy back to the main grid and charge smaller membership fees. Even better, pay the people who generate the most energy a percentage of the surplus. Personally, I would bike a lot harder if I thought there were money in it.
